Why ‘Yielded Hearts’?

yielded hearts

I’m not sure if I was awake or asleep, but I was sure I’d just heard from God. Last night the Lord showed me dust on the ground and spoke to me about how He was able to create man from the dust of the earth (Genesis 2:7). Then He said, “all I need is a yielded heart, and I can create soldiers of the gospel – warriors of love.”

I woke up this morning with this encounter in my heart playing over and over again.  What God showed me first was His incredible sovereignty and power to be able to fashion man in His image from mere dust on the ground.  With this in mind, He then showed me the raw material He required to fashion a true believer in Christ – A sold out, laid down lover, who would no longer live for themselves, but would follow Christ’s example no matter what.  By His sovereignty and power, He would take a yielded heart and restore that person to their created value and purpose.

I discussed this with Diana and while this was clear in our hearts, it still needed to be validated through His word and we were very keen to see what a ‘yielded heart’ looked like.  So the research began 🙂

In the context it was shared ‘yielded’ means to have:

  • Surrendered or submitted
  • Relinquished possession or control of
  • Rendered as fitting, rightfully owed, or required
  • Given place or precedence :  acknowledged the superiority of someone else

…. and ‘heart’ (or kardía), as used 159 times in the KJV bible, means:

  • the heart, that is, (figuratively) the thoughts or feelings (mind) – as defined by Strong’s

and/or

  • the soul or mind, as it is the fountain and seat of the thoughts, passions, desires, appetites, affections, purposes, endeavours
  • of the understanding, the faculty and seat of the intelligence
  • of the will and character   – as defined by Thayer’s

So ‘yielded hearts’ in an amplified sense could read:

The yielding (surrender; submission; handing over control) of your heart (mind; thoughts; understanding; feelings; passions; intelligence and will) to God

Confirming now that a yielded heart is simply a heart that purposes to let Jesus be Lord – Diana and I resolved to give Him unrestrained yielded hearts and trust His sovereign love and grace to transform our lives.  The mission begins and the website to encourage others to do the same is born.

 Let’s worship!
